Patrice Beamelle Ivory Coast coach

By Mohamed Fajah Barrie in Douala

Ivory Coast coach Patrice Beaumelle says he’s not worried about losing his job after his side crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Cameroon.

The Elephants lost 5-4 on penalties to Egypt’s Pharaohs after goalless at full time and extra time in the round of 16 in Douala on Wednesday.

The Frenchman who was appointed in March 2020 to lead The Elephants at the Afcon finals is technically out of contract as they’ve exited the tournament.

The team under his guidance had also failed to make it to the final play-off stage of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

“To be honest I don’t think about losing my job,” the 43-year-old Beaumelle told Sierra Leone Football.com.

“I’m a competitor, I don’t fear losing my job. I don’t want to talk about myself and my contract for now, in my mind I’m still in the game.”

“I need two or three days to cool down, and we see what’s going to happen, it’s football so for that I have no problem.”

Before Beaumelle was named coach of The Elephants, he was assistant manager to Ivory Coast’s 2015 Afcon winning coach Harve Renard.

He had also previously served as head coach of the Zambia national team Chipolopolo.
